I have been on the program for 12 years now and my life truly began when I committed to my recovery and began working the program.  I became involved with patient activities and in 2014, I was offered employment as a Peer Coach. The following years have been the best of my life.  Hartford Dispensary staff were invested in me and my life has come full circle.

My journey began 46 years ago with Hartford Dispensary.  I was 21 years old at the time, on parole, and wanted to get on the program to stop using heroin and get my life back on track.  I was initially on the program for two years and thought I was ready to be off the program.  I was wrong. I left treatment too soon, started using again, and went back to jail.  This pattern continued, unfortunately for many, many years.  I was last released from prison in 2006 and returned to Hartford Dispensary days after my release. I am now the proud owner of a home, have credit, a car that’s paid for, and a purpose in life.  If it wasn’t for the program, these things never would have been possible for me.
